Where Porcelain Meets Elegance: Sun Yat-sen University’s Humanities & Aesthetics Study Program Visits P&T Royal Ware (PITO)

Through porcelain, we encounter the elegance of the East; through aesthetics, we discover the spirit of craftsmanship. When advanced humanities and aesthetics education meets Chaozhou’s millennia-old ceramic heritage, tradition and contemporary aesthetics come together in a meaningful dialogue at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Chaozhou Blue-and-White Porcelain Cultural Center.
On September 12, participants of the Advanced Humanities & Aesthetics Study Program at Sun Yat-sen University visited P&T Royal Ware (PITO) for an immersive cultural experience. They explored the heritage of Chaozhou blue-and-white porcelain, discovered the craftsmanship behind traditional ceramics, and took part in an hands-on intangible cultural heritage workshop. Through this journey, they experienced how traditional craftsmanship continues to inspire contemporary aesthetics.
Tracing the Heritage of Porcelain
The study visit began with a guided tour of the cultural center. Led by the P&T Royal Ware (PITO) team, the participants explored the exhibition spaces and learned about the history and cultural significance of Chaozhou blue-and-white porcelain.
From delicately crafted blue-and-white porcelain pieces to contemporary tableware works that combine craftsmanship with artistic expression, each exhibit reflects the enduring character of Chaozhou ceramics.

The tour covered the origins and development of Chaozhou blue-and-white porcelain, traditional ceramic-making techniques, and the preservation and innovation of intangible cultural heritage. Participants also learned about P&T Royal Ware (PITO)’s decades-long dedication to the ceramic industry and its commitment to bringing traditional craftsmanship into contemporary design and hospitality.

Rooted in Chaozhou and tracing its origins back to 1982, P&T Royal Ware (PITO) has spent more than four decades carrying forward traditional ceramic craftsmanship while embracing modern design, product development, precision manufacturing, and high-end dining applications.
By bringing the heritage of Chaozhou porcelain beyond the kiln and into contemporary life, P&T Royal Ware (PITO) continues to explore new possibilities for traditional craftsmanship on tables around the world.

A Hands-On Encounter with Blue-and-White Porcelain
The experience went beyond observation. Following the cultural tour, participants took part in a blue-and-white porcelain plate painting workshop, experiencing the distinctive beauty of traditional porcelain decoration firsthand.

The white porcelain plate became their canvas, while delicate cobalt blue served as their medium. As they carefully painted each line and pattern, the participants slowed down and immersed themselves in the creative process.
Every brushstroke reflected an individual understanding of aesthetics, while each one-of-a-kind porcelain piece brought together traditional craftsmanship and personal creativity.
Through this hands-on experience, participants gained a deeper appreciation of the precision and patience behind ceramic craftsmanship, as well as the warmth and vitality of intangible cultural heritage.

When Aesthetics Becomes Part of the Journey
The visit concluded with a unique aesthetic runway experience, adding a memorable final chapter to the day.
Led by Ms. Xu Hong, the participants walked with elegance and confidence, bringing together the refined spirit of Eastern aesthetics, contemporary poise, and the timeless beauty of porcelain.

No elaborate setting was needed. Surrounded by the heritage of porcelain craftsmanship, every step became part of the scenery.
The experience transformed the study visit from a journey of knowledge into a broader exploration of culture, craftsmanship, and contemporary aesthetics.

One piece of porcelain can hold countless stories; one enduring aesthetic can touch the heart.
